Bishop George Browning

George Browning was Bishop of Canberra Goulburn 1993 – 2008.  He was awarded the Centenary Medal for services to the community in 2000 and Doctor of Letters honoris causa for contribution to Education in 2007.  He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in 2015 for his thesis Sabbath and the Common Good, work that culminated his years as the inaugural convener of the Anglican Communion Environment Network.  His interest in and support for Palestine began in the 1980’s following the training of Palestinian theological students in Australia. He has visited Palestine on many occasions, twice taking with him a pilgrimage of Australian young people.  He became President of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network from 2013 – 2022 and is now its patron.
