Sabeel September 2026 Newsletter

We would like to reflect on the important work our Friends of Sabeel are doing around the world. Friends of Sabeel is a global network inspired by Palestinian Liberation Theology, working across different countries to promote justice, nonviolence, and solidarity, and to apply Sabeel’s vision within local social and political contexts.   In 2025 alone, Friends of Sabeel networks were instrumental in organizing faith communities toward collective liberation. In Australia, Friends of Sabeel held events featuring Palestinian and other experts, supported Palestinians from Gaza who had reached Australia, and contributed to the launch of the Institute for the Study of Christian Zionism. In Canada, Friends of Sabeel accompanied the Palestinian Christian community through pilgrimage programs, advocacy campaigns, the Call for Repentance conference, collective action with partners, and their Silent Art Auction for Palestine. In the United States, FOSNA brought more than 300 leaders to Palestine through delegations, expanded speaking tours featuring Palestinian and South African voices, and developed initiatives such as the Friends of Palestinian Detainees Project and Lenten Fast for Gaza. In the United Kingdom, Sabeel Kairos UK continued campaigns and advocacy around Gaza, the West Bank, and settlement expansion, while hosting a major advocacy tour with Rev. Ashraf Tannous and Sahar Francis. The tour included parliamentary, church, university, and community engagements and concluded with a conference attended by more than 130 people. In Japan, the Sabeel Wave of Prayer, Tokyo continued bringing clergy, students, scholars, families, and others together every two weeks to pray in Japanese and English and remain connected with the realities facing Palestinians. In Germany, Friends of Sabeel continued challenging churches to engage more honestly with the realities facing Palestinians, publishing educational resources, participating in the German Protestant Church Congress, and strengthening partnerships through national and international networks.   These are just a few of the many efforts made over the past year, and the first eight months of 2026 have brought even more growth, creativity, and commitment, including organizing churches to pass important resolutions and changes in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Taken together, these efforts are a powerful reminder that the work of Sabeel extends far beyond any one country. Across continents, Friends of Sabeel are creating spaces to listen to Palestinian voices, deepen understanding, challenge injustice, accompany communities, and turn faith and solidarity into action.    To get involved with a Friends of Sabeel network near you, we encourage you to find contacts on our website here. We give thanks for this worldwide fellowship and for all who continue to walk with the Palestinian people in courage and faithful action.
