Tel Aviv shooting leaves one man critically injured and one dead

A Palestinian man has been shot dead after opening fire in central Tel Aviv, critically wounding an Israeli police inspector, authorities said.

Police identified the gunman as Kamel Abu Bakr, from a village near Jenin in the northern West Bank.

“We are standing at a very sad incident. We are praying for the well-being of the injured,” Tel Aviv’s mayor Ron Huldai told Israel’s public broadcaster.

The shooting death comes just a day after a Palestinian teenager was killed in an attack by Israeli settlers on a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank.

Two men have been arrested over that incident.

Washington has expressed concern over the growing number of attacks by Jewish settlers on Palestinian villages in the West Bank, where violence has worsened since the beginning of this year.
