

Two Years on…Remembering the St. Porphyrius Bombing
On October 19, 2023, an Israeli airstrike struck a building within the compound of the Saint Porphyrius Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza City, the third oldest church in the world. At the time of the attack, the church was serving as a sanctuary for hundreds of displaced Palestinian civilians who had sought refuge from the constant bombings.
The airstrike caused the collapse of a church council building where many families were sheltering. The attack resulted in the death and martyrdom of 18 Palestinian Christians and left many others wounded, trapped beneath the rubble.
