President Donald Trump is said to be backing a plan by Sir Tony Blair for a new international authority to rebuild and run Gaza after the Israeli military occupation of the territory ends.
The former British prime minister is understood to have been authorised by Mr Trump to build support among Arab leaders for his proposal to establish a post-war transitional body to govern Gaza.
Sir Tony met Mr Trump in the White House at the end of August, organised by the US President’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who acted as his adviser on the Middle East in his first term in office.
Mr Trump is said to have made clear that he supported Sir Tony’s plan and instructed him to quickly try to secure support for the initiative, including from the Saudi leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
