Friends of Sabeel Australia are deeply saddened and horrified by the heinous act at Bondi this weekend, where innocent people gathered to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah were targeted in a violent act of terror. This assault on a community living out its faith is an affront to the dignity of every human being and we unreservedly condemn this act of violence in the strongest possible terms.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families, all those injured, and the wider Jewish community whose holiday of joy was transformed into a scene of unimaginable pain. We also hold in our prayers the first responders, medical personnel and all those offering care and support at this devastating time.
We thank God for Ahmed al Ahmed who bravely disarmed one of the terrorists.
Sabeel rejects violence of any kind and stands in solidarity with every community affected by hatred, terror and extremism wherever they occur in the world. We call on all Australians to unite in compassion, prayer and mutual support as we mourn those lost and work together for peace and security for all.
