Help us hold the Church of England to account
CAMPAIN has enjoyed great success with its Letter to the BBC which has so far attracted over 1,350 signatures.

Many British institutions share responsibility for the tsunami of misinformation about antisemitism in the Labour Party that started in the middle of the last decade. One of these is the Church of England. Recently Archbishop Welby, said “he would never have forgiven himself if he had not supported the Chief Rabbi’s dramatic warning about Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party in the run-up to the 2019 general election”.

Many Christians are unhappy about this, and see it as part of the Church of England’s failure to challenge the suffering of Palestinians living under brutal Israeli military occupation and settler colonialism. A group has therefore instigated the drafting of this Open Letter to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York which we in CAMPAIN now invite you to sign.

Of course, CAMPAIN is not a religious organisation, and our members include people of all faiths and none. However, the Church of England is an ‘Established’ Church that plays a central role in coronations and other national events. Its bishops sit in the House of Lords, and even in this largely secular age, its pronouncements carry considerable moral authority. It needs to do better.

We all want to see the Church do more to speak out about injustice, violence, illegality, misrepresentation and misinformation in our lives – not just preach internally to itself.

So please join us in signing this letter, and encourage your friends to sign too, using social media.

Best wishes
