JULY WEBINAR – NORA CARMI
Please join us at 5.00pm on Saturday, 16 July for a fascinating hour with Palestinian advocate, Nora Arsenian-Carmi.
Nora was born in Jerusalem, Palestine, a few months before the establishment of Israel in 1948. Since 1967, she has been a permanent resident of East Jerusalem. Conflict is something she is very familiar with considering her Armenian heritage. Her family survived the genocide of 1915. Nora has served as a community builder in various religious and civil society circles. She worked with the YWCA, Sabeel Liberation Theology Center, and Kairos Palestine for more than 37 years. She remains closely connected with the World Council of Churches (WCC) assemblies and events, and participates in several global church involvements.
If you have not already pre-registered for the whole series, you can register using this link and then Sabeel will send you a private Zoom link just a few days before the session:

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT & PALESTINE
It is widely anticipated that the new Australian Government will move to recognise Palestine as required by ALP policy and will also adopt a different position in voting at the UN. The first sign of this may come as early as Monday this week when the UN Human Rights Council will be asked to accept a report by an independent Commission of Inquiry into Human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (including East Jerusalem) and Israel. We hope that Australia will not vote with the US and other pro-Israel nations to oppose the report. The full report can be read here:
RELIABLE NEWS ON PALESTINE ISSUES
Australian media are famously timid when reporting on developments in Palestine, so you may like to check out the reliable independent news sources helpfully gathered in one place on the APN website:
IHRA ANTISEMITISM DEFINITION
We are hearing a lot of about governments and universities moving to adopt a controversial definition of Antisemitism developed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). For helpful background on this issue, check out the APAN factsheet:
